A dental bridge is a false tooth that bridges the gap created by a missing tooth. Bridges are held in its place by abutment teeth, which are present on either side of the gap. These false teeth, also known as pontics, are mostly made up of porcelain to blend with your natural teeth aesthetically. - It helps in restoring your natural smile
- It restores your ability to chew food properly
- Missing teeth can affect your speech and pronunciation. Bridges can help you with this
- It helps in maintaining the shape of your face
- Helps to re-adjust your bite
- Helps in maintaining the alignment of your teeth and prevents them from moving out of position
There are mainly four types of bridges available here at Miami Essential Dental Clinic. Our dental professional will check your teeth and gums’ condition first and then decide the right treatment procedure for you. The types of bridges will include:
- Traditional- Here, the false tooth is held in place by crowns cemented onto each of the abutment teeth. It is the most popularly used dental bridge, and possible to execute when you have natural teeth on either side of the gap.
- Cantilever- It is almost similar to the traditional bridges, but here the pontics are held in place by dental crowns, cemented to one abutment tooth. Thus for this dental bridge, you would need just one natural tooth beside the gap.
- Maryland- here too, like the traditional bridge, it employs two abutment teeth on either side of the gap. The difference here is that Maryland dental bridge uses metal or porcelain frameworks bonded to the back of abutment teeth.
- Implant-supported- Here, one implant is placed surgically for a missing tooth, and these implants hold the bridge in place. It is considered as the most stable and robust system among all.
