Endodontic therapy, also known as root canal therapy, helps remove the infected pulp from inside your teeth. It helps to protect your teeth from future infections. This procedure occurs in the pulp of your teeth, which is the root canal. Most people get scared when they hear about getting a root canal. They associate severe pain with the treatment. But this is not the case. The infected or decayed material inside the teeth can cause pain and other oral problems. Root Canal treatment helps you to get rid of that. If you have damaged or infected teeth, then do not delay and contact us at Miami Essential Dental Clinic.
Root Canal Therapy is done in three steps. You will have to visit your dentist more than once to complete the treatment course.
- Cleaning the root canal- This is the first step wherein your dentist will remove the decayed material from your root canal. You will be given local anesthesia, and then a small hole will be drilled on your teeth surface to remove the decayed pulp.
- Filling- once the decayed material has been removed, your dentist will clean and shape the hollow area. Then he will fill the place with a filling to seal the canals completely. Once the decayed nerve tissues are removed, you will no longer experience any pain there.
- Crown- this is important to save the structure of the tooth. After the filling has been done, your dentist will place a crown on the concerned teeth, and the treatment procedure will get completed.
There are many instances when you might need a root canal therapy. We have listed them below:
- When the pulp becomes injured or diseased, so much so that it is unable to repair itself and dies
- When bacteria destroys the pulp
- In case of a deep cavity, cracked tooth, or loose filling, bacteria can easily affect your pulp
If an infection weakens the bones, then the ligaments around it will swell, and your teeth will become loose. A pulp injury can lead to high teeth sensitivity. Without on-time treatment, the infection will spread, and you will end up losing your teeth. Hence, root canal therapy eliminates pain and can save your natural teeth.
